Art Update - Angel Token Painting
over 7 years ago – Thu, Oct 04, 2018 at 12:01:40 AM

 It's done!

The Angel was the last piece of art needed to get the deck into production. Now it's gets photographed and added to the files. I'll make a final pass over all the cards and artwork. I'll be uploading the final files and tabulating final counts and placing the order tomorrow night!

I'm so very excited!

Art Update - Angel Token Drawing
over 7 years ago – Wed, Sep 26, 2018 at 06:55:31 PM

 Hi All!

Here we go! The last piece of artwork is underway. I wrapped up the drawing last night and I'll be transferring and underpainting all day today. I'm jittery with excitement, or maybe it's the espresso...

If you're just checking in after a while here's what's up. This is the last painting for Set 2. You should expect to get a bunch more updates as everything goes into production.

I obviously need some time to finish the painting. My plan is Monday or Tuesday. So what happens then? I will go through my photography process. That's where I take 12-18 photos that get stitched together. This is going to be a pretty big painting.

Then I add the image to all the necessary files. Once those files are in place, the last ones, I'll go over the deck once more and make any last edits and place the order! I can't wait to hit that button. It will take a few weeks to get everything delivered. The metal tokens take a little longer to manufacture but I've planned ahead and have already ordered about half of what I need. If you're getting an AP with a sketch plan on that coming at a later date. I don't want anyone to wait any longer than they have to for one sketch.

I'm hoping some of the shipments make it before I leave for Illuxcon. If so, I'll bring orders for anyone attending (just let me know). I expect to start fulfilling orders when I get back from Reading, PA regardless. Illuxcon runs from October 17th - 21st. What about before Illuxcon? I will fulfill as many as I can if my items arrive before, while doing my show prep. I've been fulfilling Patreon rewards for well over a year now and I'm pretty happy with my system. With 90-100 patrons regularly being fulfilled my turn around is usually 1-2 days once my shipments come in. I don't think you guys understand how excited I get to send people stuff. I love it. I don't want you to wait if I can help it.

Again, expect to see updates for these last bunch of milestones:

  • Final Angel artwork
  • Set 2 tokens ordered
  • Tokens arriving in my storage
  • Shipments and Illuxcon pickup arrangements (if possible)
  • Post illuxcon shipping info and metal token arrival estimates
  • General shipping update and GP MKE info (if you want to pick up at the event)

To be sure, there will be other updates. I will be working on the Design-A-Token and I'm looking forward to what I'll be working on. The resulting token will be available in the online store when ready.

Art Update - Elemental Token painting
over 7 years ago – Mon, Aug 27, 2018 at 09:46:07 PM

Hi all!

I wanted to pop in to share the art for the new Elemental Token. It still has to dry and get scanned soon. But, I wanted you guys to know that I'm working hard for you guys.

I painted this in a horizontal format just in case I liked it enough for playmats. And I think I do. So, keep a look for those before GP Milwaukee.

For those keeping score I have one painting left before I get started on placing my giant order of Token Set 2! I'll be working on the angel painting as soon as I can. I have two Magic assignments that I'll be working on over the next few weeks.

Plus there's a trip to Paris. It was supposed to be a work event. Things didn't work out as intended. I don't want to go into too much detail but let me just pass on some words of advice; if you invite someone as a special guest, please don't forget you did. So, my wife and father will get a nice vacation with me rather than without.

I can't tell you how excited I am to be almost finished. I know you all want me to be painting that angel right this second. I would if I could. I will be working on the drawing soon though. So, that will be the next post.

Art Update - Pirate Token
over 7 years ago – Mon, Aug 20, 2018 at 06:47:07 PM

It's been a very busy few weeks since I last posted. I've been to see some of you guys at GP Minneapolis. I hope everyone had a great time. It's always nice to visit your home towns. With only a few days to be home I then headed to GenCon in Indianapolis. This was this busiest I had ever been.

Busy and fun times. There was the MtG artist live painting session one night. We painted Jhoria with @tappytoeclaws and hosted by Pastimes Games.

I also got to see the screening of EYE OF THE BEHOLDER: The Art of Dungeons and Dragons. One of my pieces was in it too! It's not credited, so I'll let you guys that see it try to spot it.

Let's get back to some new art! I finished painting the new pirate token; Cap’n Mary Deadwright, Pirate Hellion. It's painted on unstretched linen canvas. Cropped it measures 18x24 inches. I did mention going bigger and better for some of these paintings than I had planned. They take a little longer but I know it's worth it.

Not ever being idle I have the elemental sketched out on the canvas and it will be ready to paint soon. In the image is me using my projector to transfer my digital sketch to the canvas. On the left you can see how little I'm using from the sketch. After this I'll sit with it a bit more to work out specific details that are important. The rest of the drawing happens in the paint. Also, I'm working horizontal. I've worked out the crop for the token as well as a playmat!! Recently I had a poll on Twitter for a color scheme. I think I have an idea of what direction I will go. Thanks to everyone that participated.

After the elemental is done I'll have just one more painting, the angel. There's no way around the obstacles I set up for myself on that one. Its going to be complicated and a huge challenge. I know the payoff will be well worth the time and effort. These two paintings will be completed soon. There are two Magic assignements I'll also be working on. All I ask is a little more patience.

Questions and comments are always welcome.
